Whiteboards are a key tool for any teacher. Alongside classroom use, you see these handy boards often making an appearance in the office, playrooms or even on your fridge. We have all seen a whiteboard slowly transition into more of a greyish board over time, the markers appear to smear and it can make your work seem messy. This is what we call ghosting.
How can you stop this haunting? Let us explain.
What is Ghosting?
Ghosting is the term used when previous writing or drawings on a whiteboard leave behind faint marks, stains, or residue even after being erased. These marks aren’t as prominent as fresh ink, but they’re visible enough to be distracting – even annoying! Think of it like chalk on the pavement, the colourful residue remains even after the drawing has faded.
Over time, these remnants can build up and make your whiteboard look dirty, even when it’s technically “clean.”
Ghosting can also be caused by ink that has been left on a whiteboard for too long. The ghosting process is only sped up if you are using lower quality markers, unlike the markers we have on offer here at Show-me, of course. Most commonly, a well-loved and used whiteboard will typically show signs of ghosting over time.
